How we translated Pipedrive into English
When we became Pipedrive CRM partners for the Czech Republic and Slovakia 5 years ago, we didn't realize how important the language is for Czechs. At that time Pipedrive had localization in English, German, French, Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese. But there was no Czech.
Of course, we argued as proper mall people - after all, a deal is a deal in Czech and activities are activities. Moreover, in Pipedrive you create your own fields which can be in English and 90% of them can be translated into English.
But the Czech person resisted. So we tried it the other way around. We met with Pipedrive, and we said we needed Czech. But the Czech Republic was not a key market for Pipedrive. Even though they understood our requirements, the business case of hundreds of thousands for translation just didn't work out.
But after repeated requests, we agreed to help them. Pipedrive gave us access to their database of descriptions and we got to work. We translated over 150,000 texts over the next 3 months of work. This was followed by a second eye check to make sure there were not only grammatical errors.
And after less than half a year we finally reached the finish line - 99% of the translated texts into English. In April 2022, Pipedrive launched English as the next language version of its CRM system by marketers for marketers. And thanks to this, thousands of Czech users finally got the chance to enjoy this CRM to the fullest.
What's next? Pipedrive is constantly adding new things and translating everything into Czech as well. But they are already managing this on their own.
We at Dáváme are very happy that this has been successful and that we could help bring Pipedrive to Czechs in Czech. It was a struggle - when you see that you've spent three hours translating and you've increased the translation by one tenth of one percent, but we won!
